C70 Alpha I is one of the JBL’s large furniture speaker sets with audio equipment cabinet (C78) sold on the market in the late 60’s. C70 sold in a very shorter time (1969-70) than the premium versions C50 and Sovereign models (1966-74), probably due to its positioning between various large furniture speakers with less attractive 12” bass drivers.
C70 using the LE20-1 (2″ high frequency), LE5-2 (5″ mid range), 12″ low-frequency driver 123A and 12″ PR12 passive radiator.
The speakers were designed to lean against the wall to fill up the room with its wide dispersion but to make it sound better for serious listening, putting them 6 to 12 inches from ground and toe in a bit (but not point directly to one’s ears) would make a huge improvement.
NOTE: This pair of speakers are contiguous Serial Numbers 11146 and 11147
